Work history

Where has the time gone?

Looking back over the last 20 years of working in the digital arena, it's hard to imagine a fresh faced version of me walking into my first job. A lot has evolved since then, but here is my journey to now.

Hyperjuju - London - Junior designer 2001 - 2003 (~2 years)
Online PR agency specialising in viral marketing campaigns. My main role was to help design and build online web pages, quizzes for large organisations such as 02 (Big Brother) Universal Music (Christina Milian) and The Jim Henson Co (The Hoobs).

Urban Blue Design - London - Middleweight designer  - 2003 (~8 months)
A start up design consultancy. I was hired to help create digital designs for websites, html emails and pitching materials.

Fuelforce Ltd - Swindon - Design & marketing manager - 2003 - 2005 (~2 years)
Fuleforce owned over 200 Jet petrol stations across the UK. I was hired to manage their promotional poster and print production, along with developing their first ever website.

Huntforit.com - Swindon - Design & marketing manager- 2005- 2006 (~1 year)
A start up online auction platform with sms bidding. When Fuelforce was sold to other oil companies the CEO set up huntforit.com and brought me along to spear head the design and marketing of the new platform.

Aura Digital - Swindon - Creative Director - 2006 - 2012 (~6 years)
Aura Digital was set up by myself and a software developer to offer digital solutions for SME's.

Maplecroft - Bath - Senior designer - 2012 - 2014 (~2 years)
Maplecroft (now called Verisk Maplecroft) are a data modelling, risk analysis and strategic forecasting agency that work with large multinational companies. I worked in the software team to offer bespoke interactive dashboards centred around mapping software and unique data sets.

Travelling - India & SE Asia - Culture hunter - 2014 - 2014 (~8 months)
A digtial detox for the soul. My wife and I traveled around SE Asia for around 8 months visiting, absorbing, adventuring and relaxing.

An established agency with over 16 years of heritage and an awesome client list. I lead the design team who are responsible for all aspects of the design process.

Interests

The non-digital me

When I am not designing digital solutions you can find me scribbling away, sketching and doodling, this hasn't stopped from my childhood - I love picking up a pencil or posca pen and letting my imagination flow.

I also love to tinker and refurbish vintage record players and old furniture, there is something really rewarding about bringing something back to its former glory. Along with listening to the records, as this is one of my favourite user experiences, taking a vinyl of its cover out putting on to play while being able to hold and look at artwork and record sleeves.

Work in Progress UX

Doing it for the gram.

"I chose the name Work in Progress UX, as we are always learning no matter where we are in our career. "
I have never been a social media guy, but back in the first lockdown (after completing netflix) I was looking for something to do that combined a few of my passions (design, drawing and mentoring). I started an instagram account about UX & design, sharing tips and experiences mainly aimed at apsiring designers.

I enjoy mentoring and managing designers challenging them that design isn't just about beautiful interfaces that you get 50 likes for but means nothing but it is about problem solving first.

Since then I been approached by a UX/UI facebook group of nearly 100,000 members worldwide to help moderate, educate and direct.
